Dr Helen Matthews
Group Leader/Sir Henry Dale Fellow
Helen did her PhD at University College London where she studied neural crest cell migration. She then joined Buzz Baum’s lab at the MRC-LMCB, London, where she fell in love with watching cells divide down a microscope. She also spent three months as a visiting scientist at the Institut Curie in Paris learning micro-fabrication techniques. In 2021 she was awarded a Wellcome Trust/Royal Society Sir Henry Dale Fellowship to establish her own research group at the University of Sheffield. When not working in the lab, Helen can mostly be found wrangling her two young sons but she also enjoys cooking and learning ballet.

Dr Victoria Hart
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Victoria completed her PhD at Newcastle University studying the effects of splicing of the HER2 gene in breast cancer. She then joined the Helen Matthews lab for her first postdoc to investigate how cell shape mediates response to novel kRas inhibitors, in pancreatic cancer. After spending three years in Sheffield for her undergraduate degree she is delighted to be back in such a great city and researching such an interesting topic. Outside of the lab, she loves to explore the peak district..

Rachel Lawson
PhD Student
Rachel completed BSc and MRes degrees in Neuroscience at the University of St. Andrews, her previous work looking into locomotor systems in Drosophila. She now is a PhD student investigating mechanics in cell rounding under the supervision of Dr Matthews. Outside of her studies, she enjoys singing and a variety of crafts.
-
Megan Poxen
PhD student
Meg completed her BSc Biomedical Science and MSc Cancer Biology at Sheffield Hallam University, including a year-long placement at Sheffield University looking at pancreatic cancer. She is now a joint MRC DiMeN PhD student in the King and Matthews labs investigating the mechanics and role of macropinocytosis in pancreatic cancer. Outside of the lab, she has a passion for movies and cooking.

Isabella Davis
MRC DiMeN PhD Student
Isabella completed her MBiomedSci Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield, investigating the effects of acyltransferases in mediating the lipid raft proteome. Following her interest in cell and molecular sciences, she is now a MRC DiMeN PhD student, investigating how the composition of the extracellular environment affects the cell cycle in pancreatic cancer under the supervision of Dr Helen Matthews and Dr Helen Bryant. Outside of her studies, she enjoys painting, films, and swimming.
